2 1/2 Tsp Yeast
1/4 Cup Warm water (105-110 degrees)
3/4 Cup Warm milk (105-110 degrees)
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 1/2 Tsp Salt
1 Egg
1/4 Cup Shortening
3 1/2 - 4 Cup Flour
Dissolve yeast i warm water. Stir in milk, sugar, salt, egg, shortening, and 2 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Mix enough remaining flour in to form a dough that can be handled (no too sticky). Knead dough until it is of the consistency of your ear lobe. Cover and place in warm place and let raise until double (1 1/2 hours usually). Punch down dough and roll out into 1/2" thick and cut doughnuts with round doughnut cutter. Leave on board and cover letting double once more. (40-45 minutes). Heat oil to 375 degrees and deep fry each doughnut for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Coat with powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar.
